On the night of October 10, 2026, Russian forces launched one of the most large-scale air attacks in recent times, deploying a record number of attack drones against Ukraine. According to an official report by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a total of 160 air targets were recorded, with modified jet-powered drones prevailing among them.
Scale and Geography of the Night Raid
Shahed-type strike drones, advanced jet-powered vehicles, as well as Gerbera and Parodia decoy drones were launched from several directions within the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied regions. Launches were carried out from the areas of Oryol, Kursk, Shatalovo, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from occupied Donetsk and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The massive nature of the raid placed a colossal burden on the country's entire air defense system.
Air Defense Combat Operations and Consequences of Impacts
As of 09:00 a.m., Ukraine's air defense forces successfully intercepted, shot down, or suppressed 117 enemy drones of various types using electronic warfare. However, direct hits could not be entirely avoided. Enemy air attack impacts were recorded at 14 locations, while in 10 cases, the falling debris of downed drones caused local destruction and fires on the ground.
Contradictory Data
It is worth noting that the information space and early reports from specialized monitoring channels and media featured differing figures regarding the total number of launched drones. Specifically, morning publications by several outlets, citing preliminary operational data, mentioned 142 or 136 deployed drones. However, the final official report by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded a massive figure of 160 devices, more than half of which were modernized jet-powered drones, significantly complicating their interception.
Strikes on Regions and Civilian Casualties
Tragic consequences of the night and morning aggression were recorded in a number of regions. On the morning of October 10, western regions of Ukraine were subjected to strikes: explosions thundered in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk, where air defense was actively operating. Simultaneously, Russian forces launched a direct strike on Zaporizhzhia, hitting a five-story multi-apartment residential building. As a result of the barbaric attack, civilians, including children, were killed, there are wounded, and search operations continue under the rubble of the destroyed building.
