An annual consolidated ranking of higher education institutions (HEIs) has been published in Ukraine. The 2026 list includes 240 universities from all regions of the country. The Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv has become the undisputed leader of the ranking for the tenth consecutive year.
The consolidated indicator is formed based on data from three of the most authoritative studies considered by experts and the media. Since each of these rankings relies on its own evaluation criteria, the final list represents a generalized picture, allowing for the most comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of educational institutions.
Geography of Leaders
The top twenty of the ranking demonstrates a wide geography: it includes universities from 11 Ukrainian cities. Among the leaders are universities from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Sumy. This indicates that quality higher education is available not only in the capital but also in other major regional centers.
Leaders in Specific Categories
Special attention in the ranking is paid to specialized institutions. The Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts was recognized as the best arts institution in the country. In the segment of private education, the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management (IAPM) holds the lead.
It is worth noting that previously, the annual "TOP-200 Ukraine 2026" ranking was published, where the Lviv Polytechnic National University first seized the leadership. However, in the consolidated list, which takes into account a wider range of indicators, the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv secured its leadership.
For those interested in scientific activity, the ranking of the best universities according to Scopus indicators for 2026 is also available, which evaluates scientific publications and citation rates.
