August 18, 2026. An incident occurred in Kherson that has caused a wide resonance in society and among human rights organizations. A Russian strike drone hit a private residential house, and the munition, piercing the window, ended up in the child's room. A tragedy could have happened, but fortunately, the child survived.

Incident in the child's room

According to information provided by the National Police of Ukraine, the attack took place in a private house. A Russian drone struck the building, resulting in a munition penetrating the room through the window opening. The hit was fatally accurate: the projectile fell directly into a baby cot where a two-year-old boy was sleeping at that moment.

Video and photos from the scene, published in open sources, show a destroyed window, broken furniture, and the cot itself with the munition fallen into it. Despite the proximity of the explosive to the child, the boy miraculously remained unharmed. The mother and son were urgently hospitalized for a medical examination.

Medical condition and evacuation

According to law enforcement agencies, the lives of the mother and child are not in danger. Doctors assess their condition as satisfactory, however, the psychological trauma from the experience requires the attention of specialists.

In connection with ongoing shelling and the high threat to security in the region, the police, together with volunteer organizations, have begun the procedure for evacuating the family. The mother with her two-year-old son will be transferred to a safer settlement, where they will be provided with temporary housing and necessary support.

Scale of attacks on the Kherson region

The incident with the child became part of a series of massive attacks that Russian troops launched on the Kherson region over the last 24 hours. According to the police summary, strikes were carried out using FPV drones, strike unmanned aerial vehicles, and artillery.

In the city of Nova Kakhovka (Novokaira), two men aged 58 and 67 were killed as a result of an FPV drone attack. Another 12 people were injured with varying degrees of severity. Among the victims were two police officers who were attacked in Kherson itself. Injuries were also sustained by a bus driver, drivers of civilian transport, and residents of the settlements of Novovorontsovka, Hryhorivka, and Bilozirka.

Collection of evidence of war crimes

The National Police of Ukraine states that it is recording all consequences of the shelling and actively collecting evidence of war crimes. Law enforcement officers emphasize that Russian military forces are deliberately attacking civilians, ignoring the norms of international humanitarian law.

Every case, such as the attack on the house with the child, is documented for subsequent international investigation. The police urges witnesses and victims to seek help and report new incidents.

Contradictory data

At present, there are discrepancies in the details of some attacks reported in different sources. For example, some summaries mention an attack on Brovary on the morning of August 18, which damaged the distribution center of the EVA store network. However, this incident is not mentioned in the official statements of the Kherson police, which may indicate different wave attacks or discrepancies in the geography of the strikes.

Also, some reports mention the name "Novokaira" instead of the generally accepted "Nova Kakhovka", which requires clarification from local authorities to accurately identify the place of the tragedy.
