Ukraine has launched a mechanism allowing wounded servicemen to return to the ranks faster and in accordance with their personal preferences. The country's Ministry of Defense has published details of the program for simplified return to service after sanatorium and resort treatment (SRT). There is just over a month and a half left until the expiration of this initiative.

Who can use the program

According to official data, the simplified procedure is available to those whose fact of injury was officially recorded before June 12, 2026. The deadline for submitting a report on return is set for September 20, 2026. After this date, the opportunity to use the preferential order will be closed.

It is important to note that the program is aimed at the rapid reintegration of personnel with combat experience into active units without lengthy bureaucratic delays.

Benefits and guarantees for fighters

The main difference of the new procedure is the right to choose. A serviceman can independently determine which specific unit he wants to return to, choosing from a special list available within his structure. The following are taken into account:

  • Desired direction of service;
  • Previous combat experience;
  • Specific skills and qualifications.

The return process is maximally simplified: the fighter arrives directly at the new military unit, bypassing the stages of passing through military recruitment points (MRP) or reserve battalions. Immediately after enrollment, monetary, food, and other allowances are restored.

To protect the interests of the personnel, a strict restriction has been introduced: within six months after enrollment, a serviceman cannot be transferred to another unit without his written consent. At all stages of the return, fighters are provided with support from the Ministry of Defense contact center at number 1519.

Which units accept fighters

More than 70 units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), National Guard, and State Special Transport Service have been opened for the implementation of the program. The list includes places in mechanized, assault, airborne, artillery, and unmanned units. Command is looking for specialists with various military specialties.

However, the Ministry of Defense warned that the number of vacant positions in certain areas is limited. Therefore, the military recommend not delaying the submission of the report.

How to submit a report

Submission of documents can be carried out in two ways:

  • Directly to the military unit (for AFU and State Special Transport servicemen);
  • Through the 1st or 2nd AFU recruitment center.

After receiving the report, recruiters will contact the serviceman. When considering the application, all wishes of the fighter and the needs of the unit he chose will be taken into account. Full information on the conditions and the current list of units can be found on the official website of the department. This initiative is a development of the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 767, which approved the experimental project for the accelerated return of the wounded to the ranks.
