Modern warfare is a battle of algorithms, data, and the speed of decision-making. That is why the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has announced the large-scale launch of a new structure: the IT vertical. This is not just a set of job openings, but a fundamental transformation of army management, where code becomes as important a weapon as artillery.

Digital breakthrough instead of bureaucracy

The new structure, called the digital vertical, is designed to accelerate the implementation of innovations in the troops. The main goal is to ensure an asymmetric advantage for the Ukrainian army through digital superiority. The project initiators emphasize: the speed of testing and implementing solutions is what allows staying one step ahead of the enemy.

The system is created so that useful developments and data reach units as quickly as possible, bypassing unnecessary bureaucratic delays. This is a network of military positions for IT specialists, analysts, and managers who will work at all levels of command.

Who they are looking for and what tasks are set

The Ministry of Defense has opened more than 2000 vacancies in military management bodies, military units, and subunits. Key tasks of the new structure include:

  • Operational implementation of digital services and technologies.
  • Data management and analytics to support decision-making.
  • Development of digital infrastructure and cybersecurity.
  • Training and support of digital competencies in the troops.

Among the in-demand specialists are developers, system architects, data analysts, project managers, cybersecurity specialists, and DevOps engineers.

Requirements and conditions

The key condition is having relevant experience in IT or management. If the candidate does not have an officer's rank but meets the requirements, they can receive the initial rank of "second lieutenant" simultaneously with appointment to the position.

An application to participate can be submitted via the special portal digitalteam.mod.gov.ua. The place of assignment is determined at the stage of a technical interview with relevant experts. At the same time, the candidate can choose a specific unit if there is a vacancy there and their qualification meets the requirements.

"The final decision depends on the results of the interview and the needs of the service," the Ministry of Defense clarified.

Why this is important

The launch of the IT vertical is a signal that the digital transformation of the army has become systemic, not a point initiative. This is a step towards creating the army of the future, where technologies work for every soldier, and data becomes the basis of strategy.
