The end of June in Ukraine has turned into a severe test. The heatwave that has struck the country has not only raised temperatures to high levels but has begun to massively rewrite climate history. Over four days, from June 25 to 28, 22 new temperature records were recorded in 12 cities across the country. Thermometers showed daytime values above +36°C, and meteorologists warn that the peak of the anomaly is yet to come.

Historical Anomaly: How the Weather Changed Over Four Days

According to data from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (UkrGMC), the heat was not a one-time spike but a persistent wave that sequentially updated maximums in different regions. Experts note that daytime indicators in several regions exceeded previous historical values for these calendar dates.

The chronology of the records is as follows:

  • June 25: The first blows of anomalous heat were recorded in several cities where temperatures exceeded all expectations.
  • June 26: The heatwave shifted, and new records were recorded in other settlements.
  • June 27: On Saturday, the situation did not stabilize, and experts noted new maximums in another list of cities.
  • June 28: Sunday became the "hottest" day in terms of the number of updates. On this day, record temperature values were recorded in 11 different regions of Ukraine at once.

Cause of the Anomaly: Air from Africa

Why did Ukraine end up in a zone of extreme heating at the end of June? Natalia Ptukha, Head of the Media Relations Department of UkrGMC, explained the mechanism of what is happening. The cause was a powerful air mass coming from northern Africa. This flow of hot air passes through southern and central Europe, gaining strength and reaching Ukrainian territories.

The expert warned that it was precisely from June 28 that the wave of truly strong heat began to engulf the country, and this is just the beginning.

Forecast: The Danger of +38°C

The situation on Monday and Tuesday, June 29 and 30, promises to become even more tense. Throughout the Right Bank of Ukraine, daytime temperatures may reach +35...+38°C.

"If the temperature is above +35°C, it is already considered a strong heatwave. And this poses a certain danger," Natalia Ptukha stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

Such conditions require increased vigilance from the population, especially during peak heating hours. While city parks are turning on artificial mist cooling systems, as seen in photos from Kyiv, the body's natural thermoregulation mechanisms may not cope with such a load.
