Ukraine is actively working to secure additional resources to continue military operations. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov officially stated Kyiv's intention to obtain an additional $20 billion in military support from partner countries. He made this statement during a joint press conference with the Dutch Minister of Defense.
Discussion Plan in Ramstein
The issue of allocating a new funding package is planned to be raised at the upcoming meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, known as the "Ramstein Group." This coalition includes representatives from more than 50 countries. A source in the Ukrainian defense sector confirmed to Reuters that Kyiv intends to discuss the need to expand assistance in this format.
Mykhailo Fedorov explained that the requested amount should be an addition to the already announced volumes of support. According to him, of the approximately $40 billion promised by allies earlier, about $24 billion is currently on the delivery schedule. Thus, the new initiative aims to bridge the gap between promises and actual deliveries.
"Window of Opportunity" and Shifting Priorities
Kyiv views the current moment as a strategically important "window of opportunity" to strengthen support from partners. The Defense Minister emphasized that Ukraine is not just waiting for help but is actively working with allies to change delivery priorities to increase their effectiveness on the battlefield.
Fedorov also commented on the situation at the front. He noted that the advance of Russian troops has slowed down this year. One of the key reasons for this, according to the Ukrainian minister, has been Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian logistics chains and supply facilities.
Position of Western Partners
Ukraine's allies in the format of the "Group of Seven" (G7) and the Ukraine Defense Contact Group have repeatedly stated their readiness to strengthen military support for Kyiv. In particular, G7 leaders identified several key areas for assistance:
- Supply of air defense systems;
- Transfer of long-range strike capabilities;
- Provision of ammunition;
- Preparing Ukraine for the upcoming winter.
Separately, G7 leaders discussed ensuring the country's energy resilience, promising to allocate additional funds and equipment to protect critical infrastructure during the cold period.
