Ukraine has completed the priority elimination of post-winter damage on roads of national and international importance. Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko called the scale of the work accomplished unprecedented since the start of the full-scale invasion.
Scale of Restoration Work
According to the head of the government, a total of 14 million square meters of road surface were renewed. This is the highest volume of planned repair work carried out since the beginning of the war. At the beginning of the year, road services focused their efforts on highways that were most affected by the harsh weather conditions of the winter period.
Priority was given to key international highways and defense logistics routes. In particular, active work was carried out on the Kyiv – Chop and Kyiv – Odesa routes, ensuring the country's connectivity and export capabilities.
Focus on Frontline Regions
Sviridenko emphasized that further infrastructure restoration efforts will be shifted to frontline regions. The main priority will be roads that are critical for military logistics and evacuation.
The Prime Minister noted that the proper condition of roads is a key factor for the uninterrupted movement of military cargo, the stable functioning of the economy, and people's safety. The President of Ukraine had also previously drawn attention to the need to accelerate the resolution of road problems in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, pointing out the importance of these routes for the evacuation of the wounded.
International Support
To continue the large-scale reconstruction, Ukraine has received significant financial support. The European Investment Bank allocated 230 million euros for the modernization and restoration of road infrastructure. The relevant financial agreement has already been approved by the Verkhovna Rada, which identified international transport corridors as a priority for funding.
