The Ukrainian national rhythmic gymnastics team has officially begun the fight for participation in the 2028 Olympic Games, which will be held in Los Angeles. The first and critically important stage of the qualification cycle was the World Championship hosted by Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The tournament, taking place from August 12 to 16, 2026, holds strategic significance: it is here that the first licenses for participation in the upcoming Games will be contested, both in the individual all-around and in group exercises.
Mechanics of Olympic quota distribution
The selection system at this stage is based on the principle of distributing non-named quotas. In individual competitions, the three best athletes at the end of the all-around final will receive one pass each for their National Olympic Committees for the 2028 Games. A similar system applies to group exercises: the coveted Olympic licenses will be won by the three strongest teams that make the podium in the team standings. This means that at this stage, the coaching staff has the right to choose the athlete who will defend the country's honor in Los Angeles, although the slot for the national delegation will already be secured.
Composition of the Ukrainian delegation
The Ukrainian delegation traveled to Germany in its strongest possible lineup, demonstrating ambitions for high placements. In individual disciplines, the country's honor will be defended by two leading athletes: Taisia Onofriychuk and Polina Karika.
