Ukraine's State Service for Emergency Situations (SES) released footage of the aftermath of Russia's overnight attack on Kyiv. As of the morning of September 8, 2026, rescuers had pulled 13 people from damaged buildings, and the number of injured, according to the latest data, stood at seven. Fatalities were also recorded in the capital — the Kyiv Military Administration expressed its condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the victims.
Course of the attack: from ballistic threat to missiles and drones
The consequences of the overnight strike on the capital were gradually clarified. First, the Air Force warned of a ballistic threat, then data emerged about cruise missiles and jet-powered drones heading toward Kyiv. The first reports of hits on residential buildings came from two districts of the city — in Solomianskyi, five-story and three-story residential buildings were hit, and the first injured were recorded there.
Holoshytskyi district: hit on a 26-story building at the 23rd-floor level
In Holoshytskyi district, according to SES data, a 26-story non-residential building was hit at the level of the 23rd floor. This caused structural damage, but no further fire broke out. At another address in the same district, a garage caught fire: the flames spread to a nearby non-residential building and a business center. During reconnaissance, rescuers pulled out one injured person. In addition, two people who had been trapped due to damage from the blast wave were brought into the fresh air from an apartment in a 16-story residential building.
Solomianskyi district: rescue of trapped residents
In Solomianskyi district, people were also trapped in a five-story residential building. Rescuers evacuated 10 people, and one more person was hospitalized before the SES units arrived. Thus, according to initial data, the majority of the injured residents were concentrated in this district.
Darnytskyi, Podilskyi and Dniprovskyi districts: fires in garages and warehouses
In Darnytskyi district, a garage on the grounds of a private house caught fire — the fire was extinguished over an area of 15 square meters. In Podilskyi district, a fire broke out in a warehouse building, and cars and garage bays were also burning. In Dniprovskyi district, as of the morning, firefighters were still extinguishing a fire in the garages.
Kyiv Oblast: strikes on logistics the day before
This time, strikes also hit Kyiv Oblast. The day before, drones destroyed seven trucks in Boryspilskyi and Fastivskyi districts, and also hit a logistics complex twice — rescuers had to extinguish the fire at this facility again.

Open sources disagree on the number of fatalities and injuries. The basic message on the morning of September 8 spoke of two fatalities and seven injured (earlier — six). At the same time, a number of publications, summarizing the attack on Kyiv and the oblast, report four fatalities. The discrepancy is probably due to the fact that one version counts only victims within the city limits, while the other covers the entire Kyiv Oblast, as well as the fact that the data was being updated throughout the morning. Until the Kyiv Military Administration officially confirms the figures, it is premature to consider the exact numbers final.
