On the night of July 1, Ukrainian defense forces carried out a large-scale operation, striking strategic targets deep inside Russian territory. The targets of the attack were an oil refinery in Ufa and a defense industry enterprise in the Penza region.
Strike on fuel infrastructure in Bashkortostan
According to information provided by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, drones reached Ufa, located more than 1300 kilometers from the front line. The target was one of Russia's largest producers of lubricating oils. This is already the second time that Ukrainian long-range strikes have hit this oil refinery, demonstrating the ability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to reach targets deep in the enemy's rear.
Strike on military plant in Penza
Parallel to the attack on Bashkortostan, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles struck a strategic object in the Penza region. The distance to the target was about 600 kilometers. The enterprise is engaged in the development and manufacture of components for missile armament, which Russian occupiers use to strike Ukrainian territory.
Kyiv's position: "Fair sanctions"
Volodymyr Zelenskyy called these actions part of the plan to apply "long-range sanctions," which is being implemented daily. In his statement, the head of state emphasized that such strikes are a fair response to Russia's actions. "Peace is needed, and this is what the Russian leadership must realize. Russia must end its war," the president noted.
Context: series of attacks on refineries
Attacks on Ufa and Penza continued the campaign to strike Russia's energy infrastructure. To date, Ukraine has attacked eight of the ten largest oil refineries in Russia. Some facilities have been subjected to shelling multiple times.
A recent example of a large-scale attack occurred on the night of June 28, when drones struck an oil refinery in the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban in the Krasnodar Krai. A series of powerful explosions led to the ignition of several containers of petroleum products and a large fire on the plant's territory.
