Ukrainian drivers are preparing for major changes in vehicle operation rules and road control. Starting June 1, 2026, new regulations will come into force, significantly tightening requirements for the condition of vehicles and the discipline of road users. The main innovations concern window tinting, technical inspections, and the system of automated violation recording.
Strict control over tinting
One of the key areas of the reform will be the fight against excessive tinting. Patrol inspectors have been equipped with modern devices for accurately measuring light transmission of glass, which guarantees an increase in the number of checks on the roads. Violation of transparency norms will incur a fine of 510 hryvnias.
Special attention is paid to repeat offenses. If a driver is caught again with prohibited tinting, they will be issued a directive to eliminate the defect within ten days. Ignoring this requirement will lead to serious consequences: the vehicle may be temporarily seized and sent to an impound lot.
Mandatory technical inspection for commercial vehicles
The technical control system will also undergo changes. Starting next year, a mandatory technical inspection will be introduced, which will primarily affect commercial transport. Taxis, car-sharing services, and delivery vehicles will be targeted.
The cost of the procedure ranges from 800 to 1500 hryvnias depending on the region. Experts have the right to prohibit a vehicle from entering the road if serious technical malfunctions are detected, which should increase overall safety on the highways.
Parking and cameras: automation of fines
Owners of personal vehicles will face changes in the parking sector. Updated tariffs will come into force in the largest cities — Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Dnipro. The cost of parking will increase by an average of 15–20%, and paid parking zones will be expanded.
Although the fine amount for unpaid parking remains the same — 340 hryvnias, the mechanism for detecting violators will change. Now, rulings will be generated automatically thanks to the latest control systems, without the involvement of an inspector.
Mass implementation of recording cameras
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced a large-scale expansion of the automatic control network. By the end of summer, about 150 new recording complexes will appear on the roads. These devices will track not only speeding but also running red lights and unauthorized entry into public transport lanes.
The fine amounts for speeding remain unchanged and range from 340 to 1700 hryvnias depending on the severity of the violation. However, the automation of processes will make evading responsibility practically impossible.
Experts recommend that car owners undergo diagnostics in advance, check that the tinting complies with standards, and carefully study the new parking rules to avoid unplanned expenses.
