Four years of full-scale war have radically reshaped Ukraine's labor market. If in 2022 employers were actively seeking personnel for the service sector and entry-level career positions, by 2026 the situation had changed beyond recognition. OLX Work analysts conducted a comparative analysis of job postings from April 2022 and April 2026, revealing shocking trends of declining demand.
Collapsing Demand for Domestic Staff
The most dramatic changes affected the service sector and domestic staff. Housekeepers led the decline in job postings. Over four years, the number of job offers in this category dropped by 68%: from 287 vacancies at the start of the war to just 93 in April 2026. This indicates that many Ukrainians have been forced to review their expenses and give up services that were previously considered necessary.
Technical and Office Specialties
A decrease in demand of 20–50% has been recorded across a wide range of professions — from skilled trades to office staff. Welders were particularly affected: the number of vacancies decreased by 46%, dropping from 175 to 94. This may be due to the optimization of production capacities, changes in the business operating format, or the complete cessation of activities by a number of companies.
New Employment Realities
The war has not only reduced the number of vacancies in some sectors but also stimulated growth in others. Demand has increased for professions related to manufacturing, logistics, the defense industry, and technical specialties. These changes reflect the economy's adaptation to new conditions and priorities.
Wage Gap and Overall Dynamics
Alongside the redistribution of vacancies, a significant gender wage gap persists. According to data for the first quarter of 2026, women earn an average of 27% less than men. The largest difference is observed in the arts, finance, and IT sectors. At the same time, the average salary in the country has risen to 28,900 hryvnias, indicating some economic stabilization amidst ongoing challenges.
What's Next?
The study shows that the most significant losses occurred in sectors directly dependent on consumer activity and population income levels. At the same time, professions related to security, logistics, and manufacturing demonstrate resilience and even growth. Ukraine's labor market continues to transform, and its future will depend on the ability of businesses and the state to adapt to new realities.
