Ukrainian Border Guards Set a World Record by Intercepting a Drone at Nearly 7 km Altitude

Ukrainian border guards have demonstrated exceptional skill by setting a new record for the altitude of intercepting an enemy drone. Operators from the 105th Border Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) successfully shot down a Russian reconnaissance drone at an altitude of 6,858 meters.

This was announced by the SBGS press service, which published the corresponding report on the "Northern Border" page. The incident occurred during routine air defense operations when Russian forces attempted reconnaissance using ZALA Z-20 drones.

Enemy Strategy and Counterattack

According to Ukrainian sources, Russian military forces intentionally launch their reconnaissance drones at maximum altitudes. The enemy's strategy relies on the assumption that such targets will remain out of reach for existing Ukrainian air defense systems and anti-aircraft complexes.

However, this calculation proved incorrect. Operators of the STING system, stationed at the 105th Border Detachment, executed the interception flawlessly. Destroying the target at an altitude of nearly 7 kilometers confirmed the effectiveness of Ukrainian weaponry and the high qualification of the crews.

A New Milestone in the Fight Against Drones

According to official data from the State Border Guard Service, the altitude of 6,858 meters is the highest confirmed interception record for an enemy drone among all units operating in this sector. This event marks a new stage in the tactics of countering aerial threats.

The department's statement emphasizes that the status of record holders is a pleasant bonus, but the main value lies in the fact that Ukrainian technologies and operator skills allow for a constant raising of the bar for defense effectiveness.

Previously, the top spot in this category was held by the "Lasar's Group" strike UAV unit of the National Guard of Ukraine. At the end of July, fighters from this group destroyed a similar ZALA Z-20 drone, but at an altitude of 6,400 meters. Now, this result has also gone down in history as an important stage in the evolution of the Ukrainian air defense system.
