At the Eurosatory international exhibition, the Ukrainian company OM Defense Systems presented the Drone Squad Fury unmanned aerial vehicle — a platform capable not only of dropping munitions but also of engaging in aimed fire from a rifle. This is one of the most unusual and technologically bold projects in the field of military robotics in recent years.

UAV as a universal platform

According to a representative of OM Defense Systems, the Fury drone is designed as a modular system onto which various types of weaponry can be mounted. In particular, it is capable of carrying mortar munitions weighing up to 15 kg or a mount with automatic weapons. The possibility of integrating modern communication means is also provided — including Starlink terminals to ensure stable data transmission in field conditions.

Experiment with a rifle: successes and limitations

The version of the drone with a rifle was developed specifically for Ukrainian special services. However, despite the technical implementation, it did not demonstrate the expected effectiveness in real combat conditions. As the company representative clarified: "We made it, handed it over to them, they tested it, but then they still switched to the classic dropping of munitions. Here we mainly wanted to show that we can implement almost any solution on this drone".

Context: development of the Ukrainian drone-building industry

The presentation of Fury at Eurosatory became part of a broader trend — the active development of the Ukrainian unmanned systems industry. Earlier, the company SkyFall presented a new generation of interceptor drones, the P1-SUN Long, equipped with artificial intelligence. These UAVs are capable of independently detecting aerial targets at a distance of up to 800 meters, and their AI system is trained based on more than 10,000 video recordings of real combat interceptions. After confirmation by the operator, the complex automatically captures, intercepts, and destroys the object. The P1-SUN Long modification already has dozens of confirmed hits on Russian kamikaze drones of the "Shahed" type.

Technological breakthrough or tactical experiment?

Although the rifle version did not become a mass solution, the very fact of its creation demonstrates the flexibility of the approach of Ukrainian developers. They do not limit themselves to standard scenarios for the use of UAVs, but actively experiment with new forms of armament and tactics. This allows for the rapid adaptation of equipment to specific tasks and the needs of the front.

The Drone Squad Fury drone is not just a weapon, but a symbol of the striving for technological independence and innovative thinking in wartime conditions. Even if some solutions do not find mass application, they become an important stage in the evolution of military robotics.
