At the Grand Prix stage in Kelowna, Canada, the Ukrainian figure skating team demonstrated a breakthrough result: in a single competition day, our national athletes twice updated national records that had stood for decades. Successes in men's singles and pair skating allowed Ukraine to return to the upper part of the standings at one of the key starts of the season, with final positions being the best in many years at the Grand Prix series level.

Men's Singles: 26-Year Record Broken

The main hero of the day in Kelowna was Kyrylo Marsak. In the short program, the Ukrainian finished fourth with 83.67 points, and in the free skate showed a result of 142.73 points. A total score of 226.4 points allowed Marsak to round out the top five of the competition, trailing the medalists by 22.22 points. Entering the top 5 at the Grand Prix level became Ukraine's best result in men's singles in the last 26 years.

Pair Skating: Best Result in 17 Years

No less convincing was the performance of sports pair Sofiia Holichenko and Artem Darenskyi. In the short program, the duo took sixth place with 58.34 points, and in the free skate entered the top five with 102.39 points. A total score of 160.73 points earned the pair sixth place at the stage. This result became Ukraine's best in the pair skating discipline in the last 17 years.

Historical Context of Achievements

Both results have important historical significance for Ukrainian figure skating. In men's skating, the country had not reached such heights at the Grand Prix level since 2000, when Dmytro Dmytrenko showed the best result at the NHK Trophy in Japan. In pair skating, the previous benchmark remained the silver medal won by Tatiana Volosozhar and Stanislav Morozov at the 2009 Skate America, meaning the domestic pair had not climbed higher than sixth place in 17 years.

Concluding Performances: Ice Dance

Ice dancers Iryna Pidgaina and Artem Koval will put the final period to the Ukrainian team's performances in Canada. The free dance in the ice dance discipline starts on the night of November 1-2 at 00:15 Kyiv time. It is this event that will determine Ukraine's final standing at the Grand Prix stage in Kelowna and conclude the competition program for Ukrainian skaters at this event.
