In the early hours of October 8, 2026, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refining and petrochemical complex located in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation. This attack is part of a strategic campaign targeting Russian critical infrastructure facilities involved in supplying the occupying army.
Scale and Significance of the Enterprise
The Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat plant is one of the largest production giants of its kind in Russia. Its design capacity allows it to process up to 10 million tons of hydrocarbon raw materials annually. The enterprise produces strategically vital products, including various grades of automotive gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, road and construction bitumen, as well as polyethylene and a wide range of petrochemicals, all continuously utilized to fuel the Russian military machine.
Chronology of Previous Strikes
It is worth noting that this large complex in Bashkortostan has repeatedly been targeted by drone attacks. On September 24, 2025, a similar attack severely damaged the ELOU-AVT-6 primary oil distillation unit. Later, on July 14, 2026, a massive fire broke out at the facility, after which, according to independent OSINT researchers, oil processing at the plant completely halted. Another fire incident was recorded following a subsequent raid on August 13, 2026.
Aftermath of the New Attack
The nighttime operation on October 8, 2026, resulted in yet another large-scale fire on the industrial giant's premises. Official Ukrainian agencies confirmed the strike as part of planned measures to undermine the aggressor's military and economic potential. Experts point out that regular strikes on such refineries significantly complicate the logistics of the Russian army and inflict colossal damage on the Russian budget.
