In Bratislava, at the Euro 2026 arena, the Ukrainian national futsal team achieved a feat that will go down in the history of domestic sports. In the quarter-final match, the "blue and yellows" demonstrated absolute superiority over the Georgian national team, crushing their opponent with a score of 4:0. This victory became the key to the national team's first-ever semi-final appearance in the continental championship.
Phenomenal match in Bratislava
The match, held on Tuesday, June 2, turned into a one-sided domination by the Ukrainians. From the first minutes, the Ukrainian team pinned the opponent down on their half of the court, not giving the Georgians any chance to build up any sort of game. The first-half statistics eloquently speak to the difference in class: in terms of shots on target, the opponents lost with a score of 0:7.
The duo that broke the defense
A true nightmare for the Caucasian defense was the attacking duo of Oleksandr Kolesnykov and Mykhailo Hrytsyna. It was their interaction that determined the course of the entire game. The score was opened in the 12th minute thanks to an effective combination: Kolesnykov made a precise throw-in, and Hrytsyna originally finished the pass with a knee strike. The score became 0:1.
Just eight minutes later, this same scheme worked identically. Again, a throw-in from Kolesnykov, again Hrytsyna — and the striker's brace. At the end of the first half, Mykhailo could have completed a hat-trick, but the ball only hit the crossbar.
Hrytsyna's hat-trick and Kolesnykov's precise shot
The second half continued the theme of Ukraine's unquestioned leadership. In the 27th minute, Mykhailo Hrytsyna completed his well-deserved hat-trick. This time, the assistant was again Oleksandr Kolesnykov, recording his third assist of the match, but from open play.
The final nail in the coffin of the one-sided beating was driven by Oleksandr Kolesnykov himself in the 47th minute. To his three assists, he added a magnificent goal from a free kick; the ball, after ricocheting off the wall, ended up in the net. At the same time, Ukrainian goalkeeper Magursky made several brilliant saves towards the end of the match, keeping his goal "dry".
The road to the final
Thanks to this triumph, the Ukrainian national team has reached the semi-finals of the Futsal Euro for the first time in its history. In the match for a place in the final, the Ukrainians will face the Hungarian national team. The Hungarians also crushed their opponent — Bulgaria — in their quarter-final with a score of 4:0, having previously defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina in a penalty shootout.
The other semi-final pair of the tournament will be determined in the confrontations Romania — Serbia and Czech Republic — Azerbaijan, which also close the program of the playing day on June 2.
