Ukrainian tennis players Vitaliy Sachko and Veronika Podrez have been officially included in the qualifying draw for Wimbledon 2026. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing data from the tournament's official website.
Veronika Podrez: Continuing a successful season
19-year-old Veronika Podrez will travel to Wimbledon for the second time in her career. Earlier this year, she made her debut at the major level, playing the first qualifying round at Roland Garros. Currently, the Ukrainian is at the peak of her form: in April, she reached the final of the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen, France, after coming through qualifying. In the final match, Podrez lost to her compatriot Marta Kostyuk, but nevertheless entered history as the 14th Ukrainian finalist in the history of the women's tour.
Vitaliy Sachko: First attempt to break into the main draw of a major
In the men's qualifying, Ukraine's number one player, Vitaliy Sachko, will compete. The 28-year-old tennis player will try to break into the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. Previously, he participated in the Wimbledon qualifying three times, but each time he was eliminated in the first round. This season, Sachko has already proven his readiness for serious challenges: he reached the main draw of the ATP 500 tournament in Munich through qualifying, defeating Bosnian Damir Džumhur from the top 100. This became the third time in his career that the Ukrainian has made it to the main draw of a tournament of this series.
List of main draw participants and schedule
Alongside the qualifying, the tennis players who have directly entered the main draw of Wimbledon 2026 have also been determined. In women's singles, Ukraine will be represented by seven athletes out of a total of 104 participants. Qualifying matches traditionally begin a week before the start of the main draw — this year, the first matches are scheduled for June 22. To get the coveted pass to the main tournament, players must overcome three qualifying rounds. First-round matches of the main draw will begin on June 29.
