On the morning of July 6, rail traffic in the Kyiv region was put at risk. As a result of a Russian attack and the introduction of temporary restrictions on certain sections of the track, dozens of Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) trains faced critical delays. The situation at stations and terminals remains tense: passengers are forced to wait for their flights, while the carrier attempts to minimize the consequences of the disruptions.

Route blockages and emergency measures

According to RBK-Ukraine, citing official information from the carrier, the cause of the chaos was the actions of the State Emergency Service (SES). In the interests of safety, movement was restricted on key sections of the railway. This forced Ukrzaliznytsia to use reserve detour routes. The logistical complexity of such maneuvers led to the disruption of the schedule for both long-distance and suburban trains.

Particular difficulties arose in the Fastiv direction, where suburban traffic was hampered. To ensure passengers could still reach the capital, a bus shuttle service was organized between Boyarka and Kyiv stations.

Scale of delays: from hours to days

As of 11:55, the situation on the tracks remains unstable. The most significant delays have exceeded eight hours. This concerns a number of flights that are forced to stand on siding tracks or move slowly along detour lines.

Significant disruptions have also affected other categories of trains:

  • A number of trains are running with delays of two to four hours.
  • More than 20 trains are behind schedule by one to two hours.
  • Another group of flights is delayed by less than an hour.

In most cases, Ukrzaliznytsia directly points to the impact of military hostilities as the main cause of disruptions. However, not all delays are related exclusively to military actions. Certain international flights, in particular No. 23/24 Kyiv — Helme and No. 67/68 Kyiv — Warsaw, are lagging by about two hours due to problems crossing the border.

The carrier urges citizens not to rely on old timetables. The situation may change at any moment depending on the security situation. The only reliable source of information remains the official Ukrzaliznytsia services, where data on current train movements is published.

Against the backdrop of current difficulties, it is worth noting that the company continues to implement the "3,000 km across Ukraine" program. Despite seasonal hype and restrictions introduced for the summer of 2026, the carrier continues to offer passengers the opportunity to receive free tickets for certain routes.
