Ukraine's logistics system faced a serious challenge following a Russian strike on a Ukrposhta facility in Kharkiv. The attack, which occurred on the night of June 8, forced the national postal service to urgently reroute shipments and change its operational scheme. The company's General Director, Ihor Smelyansky, confirmed that the incident led to temporary delays, but the network's operations have already stabilized.
Restructuring logistics under threat
As a result of a Shahed drone strike, the logistics hub in Kharkiv suffered partial damage. Fortunately, no employees were injured, but the facility's functionality was disrupted. This required immediate action from the company's leadership to ensure the continuity of deliveries.
According to Smelyansky, staff quickly launched temporary routes. Despite rescue teams continuing their work at the site of the damage, the first parcels began arriving at city branches by lunchtime. This demonstrates the high speed of the logistics service's reaction to force majeure circumstances.
What to expect for senders and recipients
Returning to normal operating mode will take time. The company has warned customers of possible changes in delivery times. In particular, shipments sent to Kharkiv from remote regions may take approximately one day longer than usual. Meanwhile, sending parcels from Kharkiv itself is already functioning according to the standard schedule.
"Yes, for a certain period, parcels to Kharkiv may take one day longer if sent from afar. From Kharkiv, everything should work according to schedule," clarified the head of Ukrposhta.
Compensations and damage assessment
An important aspect of the current situation remains the fate of shipments that were in the hub at the time of the attack. The company continues to assess the consequences of the strike. By Wednesday evening, the inventory is scheduled to be completed, and a list of lost or damaged parcels will be determined. Owners of such shipments will receive compensation.
Ihor Smelyansky expressed confidence in the speedy full restoration of processes: "Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow we will have good news, and we will focus on positive emotions".
Context of attacks on logistics
The attack on the Kharkiv hub is not an isolated incident. Earlier, on June 3, Russian forces struck a Nova Poshta terminal in Dnipro. Then the facility also suffered partial damage, but, as in Kharkiv, human casualties were avoided. These events highlight the vulnerability of critical logistics infrastructure in the context of ongoing hostilities.
