In July 2026, Ukraine recorded the highest level of civilian casualties since March 2022. According to data from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, at least 437 civilians were killed and another 2,610 were injured in the last month. These figures indicate a terrifying escalation of the humanitarian situation against the backdrop of ongoing Russian aggression.
Loss statistics and growth dynamics
The figures for July 2026 demonstrate an alarming upward trend. The number of killed and injured increased by 30% compared to June of the current year, when 298 deaths and 2,041 injuries were recorded. Compared to the same period last year, the rise in casualties was 70%: in July 2025, 312 people were killed and 1,482 were injured. The number of civilian deaths reached its peak since May 2022, indicating unprecedented intensity of strikes on populated areas.
Breakdown by victim categories and weapon types
Particularly tragic statistics concern children. In July 2026, 17 children were killed and 166 were injured — the highest figures since April 2022. The main causes of death were attacks with long-range weapons: missiles and drones. They accounted for 38% of all casualties (183 killed and 967 injured), with most incidents occurring far from the front line, in major urban centers. The lethality of aerial bombs increased significantly: the number of casualties from them rose by 143% compared to June (105 killed and 753 injured).
Geography of the tragedy and the situation in occupied territories
Civilian casualties were recorded in 14 regions of Ukraine and in Kyiv. The capital was the most affected: 54 killed and 202 injured. An important aspect of the UN report is information on the situation in occupied territories. Verified data from the mission covers only 25 killed and 50 injured; however, experts emphasize that access to information from there is extremely limited. The actual number of casualties in these regions, according to the UN, is likely significantly higher than the recorded figures.
Attacks on infrastructure and maritime transport
The report also notes an increase in attacks on maritime vessels and port infrastructure in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. At least 39 attacks were recorded, 20 of which targeted maritime vessels. These attacks resulted in 19 deaths and 25 injuries, causing damage to international transport and agricultural exports via the Black Sea. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine intensified retaliatory actions: during the month, at least 31 attacks were carried out on energy facilities in occupied Crimea, leading to large-scale power outages.
