The United States has launched a new cybersecurity initiative called Gold Eagle. This coordination group is designed to leverage artificial intelligence to identify software vulnerabilities and organize rapid responses to threats. The project aims to unite government agencies and the private sector to safeguard national systems.

Initiative Mechanism

The primary objective of Gold Eagle is to centralize the exchange of information regarding vulnerabilities detected by modern AI systems. The group will coordinate threat assessments and the preparation of countermeasures, linking federal agencies with providers of critical services. According to the creators, implementing artificial intelligence will reduce the duplication of scans on the same systems and accelerate the transfer of threat data to organizations responsible for network security.

The initiative will utilize existing federal government authorities and resources, while also collaborating with US technology companies. This is expected to ensure faster vulnerability detection and prioritization of their remediation.

Coalition Participants

Key US agencies have joined the new coalition. Coordination is led by the White House, with participation from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The Department of the Treasury and the Department of War have also joined the effort. The project involves companies responsible for the country's critical infrastructure, as well as open-source software developers.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that his department, in collaboration with the private sector, will focus on protecting financial organizations and eliminating specific vulnerabilities in this field.

Legal Basis and Current Status

The creation of the Gold Eagle group is a direct result of a presidential executive order issued by US President Donald Trump on June 2, aimed at advancing AI technologies and protecting critical infrastructure. The group's work falls under the tasks outlined in Executive Order 14409, which provides for close cooperation between the government and the business sector to develop AI technologies.

According to information from the White House, Gold Eagle has already begun active operations: the group receives and prioritizes vulnerability reports from various sectors, coordinates their verification, and helps ensure the security of software and networks across the country.
