An unexpected scandal has erupted in diplomatic circles, sparked by a statement from the head of EU diplomacy. Kaja Kallas publicly claimed that the American embassy was the only one to leave Ukraine amid threats from the Kremlin. However, reality turned out to be quite different: American diplomats did not leave, and their presence in Kyiv remains unchanged.
Official demarche: "We are here and working"
The US Embassy in Ukraine did not leave the rumors of its evacuation unanswered. In an official statement published on the social network X, diplomats categorically refuted information about the closure of the mission. "The US Embassy is open. There are no changes in our activities, and all other reports are false," the department emphasized.
The American side also reminded of the priorities of the State Department: the safety of US citizens remains the top priority, but this does not mean a complete withdrawal from the country. Risk assessment is conducted constantly, but no decision to close consular institutions has been made.
Where did the rumors come from?
The version that "America has left" arose against the backdrop of a tense situation after Russia threatened to launch systematic strikes on the Ukrainian capital. Kaja Kallas, commenting on the situation, noted that European missions remained, while Americans allegedly left the country.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called this information unreliable. A representative of the department, Georgy Tikhii, confirmed that the American embassy continues to work in Kyiv. Presidential advisor for communications Dmytro Lytvyn suggested that the confusion may have arisen due to the temporary departure of some diplomats before a massive strike on Sunday night, which was a standard security procedure, not an evacuation.
Political context and reaction
The situation surrounding the "flight" of the embassy has become a reason for new political speculations. The European Union, in turn, summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Federation for explanations after threats to intensify shelling of Kyiv. Nevertheless, the US position remains unchanged: they urge their citizens to refrain from traveling to Ukraine, but do not leave the country.
Ukraine, in turn, expressed gratitude to all embassies that continue to work under wartime conditions. This highlights the importance of international presence and support, even in the most difficult moments.
