Amidst the ongoing conflict, public opinion in Ukraine is undergoing significant changes regarding key allies. A fresh poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), with results published by RBK-Ukraine, reveals a divergence in the perception of US policy versus that of European Union countries. While trust in European partners is growing, the attitude towards Washington's position is becoming increasingly skeptical.

Skepticism towards the US

More than half of the Ukrainians surveyed (56%) are convinced that the United States is experiencing "war fatigue" and is beginning to pressure Kyiv to force it into making concessions to Russia. This figure indicates a serious crisis of trust in the American side in the eyes of a significant portion of the population.

Nevertheless, the US remains an important factor for a third of citizens: 30% of respondents still consider Americans a reliable ally. Another 13% of respondents found it difficult to answer, which may indicate uncertainty about the situation or an expectation of new signals from Washington.

Europe as a reliable rear

The situation regarding the perception of support from European countries is significantly more positive. The majority of Ukrainians (64%) are confident that European countries continue to provide serious assistance and strive to end the war on fair terms. Only a quarter of respondents (25%) believe that European support is weakening and that Brussels is also pushing Kyiv towards an unfair peace.

The trend of trust in the EU shows positive dynamics. Compared to the beginning of 2026, the level of confidence in European partners has increased. In January of this year, 58% of citizens considered Europe a reliable ally, while 35% spoke of Europe's "fatigue" and a reduction in the volume of aid. Thus, over a few months, the share of skeptics has decreased by almost half.

Conditions for peace and new challenges

The issue of a ceasefire remains one of the most acute in Ukrainian society. According to sociologists, 61% of citizens are ready to support a ceasefire along the current front line, but only on the condition of receiving strict security guarantees, as well as the continuation of weapons supplies and financial support.

Furthermore, Ukrainian society demonstrates a willingness to expand its participation in international security. More than half of those surveyed approve of the idea of involving the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the defense of European states in the event of an attack by Russia.

The poll was conducted between May 7 and June 3, 2026, using telephone interviews. The study involved 1,000 respondents from all regions of Ukraine controlled by the government.
