Military confrontation between the US and Iran has entered a new phase. On the night of July 8-9, American troops once again attacked Iranian territory, striking nearly a hundred targets. This marks the second consecutive day that Washington has carried out large-scale offensive operations against Tehran.
Information about the strikes was confirmed by an official report from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), published on the social network X. The military department's statement says that the goal of the attack was to further weaken Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping and civilian sailors in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Scale of the operation and targets of the strikes
According to command data, approximately 90 Iranian military facilities were hit during the night operation. The official report emphasizes that these strikes were a continuation of the successful offensive operations carried out the previous evening.
On the first day of escalation, on the night of July 7-8, the US struck approximately 80 military targets. At that time, more than 60 small boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were hit, among others.
Donald Trump's position
The decision to resume active hostilities was announced by US President Donald Trump during the NATO summit. The White House chief stated that the ceasefire with Iran has officially ended. Trump emphasized that he does not intend to negotiate with Tehran after Iran attacked merchant ships on July 7.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn already that night. Trump told journalists that following recent American attacks, Iran contacted Washington and proposed a deal. At the same time, the president expressed doubt as to whether Tehran is truly worthy of trust for signing an agreement.
Outlook for the conflict
According to Axios, the US is preparing for the resumption of mutual attacks with Iran related to control over the Strait of Hormuz. Experts assess the duration of the new military campaign ambiguously: it could last anywhere from a few days to a full month.
