American designer Vera Wang, who turned 77 this summer, is back in the spotlight — this time not for her famous bridal collections, but for her rare candor on the subject of beauty. In an interview with Page Six Style at the FGI Night of Stars gala in New York, the fashion designer talked about her approach to skincare and stated outright that she is not a fan of complex beauty rituals and multi-step procedures. Her appearance, which fans regularly discuss on social media, is not something she consciously tries to "maintain" with long lists of cosmetic products.

Two Steps Instead of Many

According to Wang, her daily routine consists of just two basic steps — cleansing her face and moisturizing. "I'm pretty simple about skincare. Just wash my face and a little moisturizing… Not 18 steps!" the designer shared. Instead of numerous jars and complex application schemes, she focuses on the bare minimum, which she believes is sufficient to keep her skin in order. She describes this approach as a conscious rejection of overloaded rituals.

Attitude Towards Makeup

Vera Wang was equally concise about makeup. She confessed that she doesn't consider herself particularly skilled at doing her own makeup and doesn't strive to master complex looks. At the same time, the designer doesn't deny herself the pleasure of certain products: in the interview, she noted that she likes Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palettes. Thus, her stance boils down to a simple choice — without the ambition of "ideal" makeup, but with enjoyment of specific products.

Beyond the Routine

Importantly, Wang herself does not claim that minimalist skincare is the secret to her youthful look. She has previously shared that adequate sleep, active work, and avoiding excessive sun exposure are of great importance to her. The designer has repeatedly emphasized that she does not seek to "stop time" at any cost and does not want to turn preserving youth into an obsession. Her red carpet and social media appearances — including a recent transformation with bright blonde hair to celebrate her 77th birthday — continue to attract public attention, but the designer herself treats them as part of life rather than the result of strict beauty discipline.

Context: What Dermatology Says

From the standpoint of basic care principles, cleansing and moisturizing are indeed among the fundamental steps recommended by dermatologists. At the same time, skin needs depend on its type, while condition is influenced by genetics, lifestyle, and sun exposure. Therefore, Vera Wang's story is primarily an example that daily care doesn't have to be complicated: the key is to choose products according to individual skin needs and use them regularly, rather than chasing the number of steps in a routine.
