Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen secured a confident and long-awaited victory at the 17th round of the Formula 1 World Championship, the Singapore Grand Prix. The four-time world champion put on a brilliant weekend display: he started from pole position and completely controlled the pace of the leading pack from the very first to the final lap. This triumph became historic for the Dutch driver, as the Marina Bay street circuit remained one of the few on the championship calendar where he had previously never managed to stand on the top step of the podium.
Tactical Drama and Pit Stop Errors
Behind the leader, an incredibly fierce and dramatic tactical battle unfolded, dramatically shifting the balance of power in the front pack. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton ran in a comfortable third position for the majority of the race. However, the turning point of the grand prix came during a virtual safety car period, when Ferrari strategists made a fatal error by leaving the Briton out on track without a timely pit stop for fresh tires.
Challengers Triumph and Veteran Slumps
While Hamilton was losing precious time on worn tires, his rivals Charles Leclerc and young rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli executed prompt tire changes. Following a spectacular battle, Charles Leclerc finished in second position, while talented Italian junior Andrea Kimi Antonelli rounded out the podium in third. Meanwhile, due to the strategic miscalculation, Lewis Hamilton plummeted straight down to sixth place in the final standings, also letting past the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Standings in the Drivers' Championship and Constructors' Cup
Thanks to his third-place finish, Andrea Kimi Antonelli significantly strengthened his championship lead, bringing his points tally to 340. The Italian prodigy now confidently leads his closest rival and teammate George Russell by 102 points, earning a realistic chance to secure the championship title early at the next round in the United States. Meanwhile, thanks to his second consecutive victory, Max Verstappen climbed to fourth place in the overall standings, closing the gap on Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes maintains an undisputed lead in the Constructors' Championship, ahead of Ferrari and McLaren. The next Formula 1 round will take place in two weeks, on October 25, in Austin.
