Violence in Lviv: Overturned Military Vehicle and Police Officer Beating — Two Criminal Cases Opened

A large-scale conflict has erupted in Lviv, escalating into open violence. On the night of July 8 to 9, on Chervona Kalyna Avenue, a crowd blocked and destroyed a service vehicle belonging to employees of the Sychiv Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC). The situation spiraled out of control: military personnel were attacked, and police officers arriving to restore order faced aggression from civilians.

Two Criminal Investigations

In connection with the incident, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have opened two separate criminal investigations. The investigation is being conducted by the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). This information was confirmed by the Office of the Prosecutor General and the National Police.

The case regarding the attack on a law enforcement officer is being investigated by the National Police under Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violence against a representative of authority). Meanwhile, the SBU has taken over the investigation of the incident involving the TRC military personnel — under Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine). Materials collected by the police at the scene have already been transferred to the SBU.

Timeline of Events

The conflict began on the evening of July 8. According to official data from the Lviv TRC and Social Support Center, at 21:30, center employees, together with the police, conducted a document check on a man who had been wanted since June 12, 2026. After establishing his identity, he was taken to the TRC and then to a military-medical commission.

A crowd gathered at the scene, numbering around 200 people according to the Office of the Prosecutor General. People cordoned off the military service vehicle, blocked its movement, damaged it, and eventually overturned it. The aggression continued into the night hours of July 9.

Attack on a Police Officer

Police officers arrived at the scene to calm the crowd and restore order. However, some participants in the conflict began to resist. One of them attacked the deputy head of the district police department in Lviv. The police officer sustained multiple injuries, including head trauma.

The investigation has already identified the attacker. He will be notified of suspicion in the near future. Procedural oversight of the case is being carried out by the Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Circumstances Remain Under Question

Shots were also recorded at the scene. The circumstances of their use are currently being established by law enforcement. According to TRC representatives, there were two vehicles at the scene: one was blocked by the crowd, and physical force was used against two military personnel.

The incident in Lviv has become one of the most resonant in recent times, demonstrating growing tension around mobilization issues and the work of TRCs. The investigation continues, and law enforcement officials promise to hold all those involved in the violence accountable.
