The situation regarding potential negotiations between Moscow and Washington has intensified due to contradictory statements by officials. While Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov previously categorically stated there were no plans to receive American delegates, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov reported that preparations for the trip are already underway.

Kremlin Confirms Contacts with Washington

According to sources, Yury Ushakov continues to maintain active communication with representatives of the US administration. Specifically, this involves contacts with Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Ushakov confirmed that the visit of these figures to Russia is indeed in the preparation stage, despite previous denials.

Kyiv Transit and Diplomatic Etiquette

Parallel to the Moscow negotiations, the delegation's route is being discussed. The Head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that the first destination for Witkoff and Kushner will be Kyiv. He emphasized that after the Ukrainian capital, the delegation will head to Moscow. Earlier, in early April, such a visit to Kyiv was announced but never took place.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously criticized the format of communication, noting that the absence of visits to Kyiv while trips to Moscow occur appears disrespectful. Zelenskyy insisted that it is important for American representatives to visit the Ukrainian capital first.

Exhaustion of the Format and Search for New Paths

Western media note that dissatisfaction with the current format of communication is growing in Moscow. According to sources, Russian authorities are tired of the frequent visits of Steve Witkoff. The Kremlin is considering the possibility of changing the format of peace negotiations to make them more effective and less formalized.

Thus, diplomatic tension persists: Moscow wavers between confirming and denying visits, Kyiv demands adherence to protocol, and Washington attempts to find a balance between the interests of both sides.
