The family saga of the Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has received a new legal chapter. Their 18-year-old daughter, Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, has petitioned the court to officially change her documents, removing her father's surname.
Official name change
The petition was filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. In current documents, the girl is listed under a double surname, however, in the court petition, she indicated a desire to keep only her mother's surname — Jolie. As the reason for such a serious step, Vivienne cited just one word in the official papers: "personal".
A hearing to consider her case is scheduled for November 2. If the court grants the request, the actress and producer's legal name will be finally changed.
Long wait and public steps
The legal formality merely formalized what has been happening for several years. Vivienne has already stopped using the surname Pitt in the public sphere. A bright example was her participation in the Broadway production of "Alien" in 2024. Working as an assistant producer alongside her mother, she was presented in the project materials exclusively as Vivienne Jolie.
A trend in the family
Vivienne became the fourth child of the ex-spouses to decide to renounce her father's surname. Their eldest daughter, Shiloh, paved the way for this. Upon reaching adulthood, she filed for a name change and is now officially known as Shiloh Jolie.
In 2026, Angelina Jolie's eldest children from her previous marriage came forward with similar initiatives. Maddox asked to remove the surname Pitt from his documents, and Zahara also filed a corresponding request, although she had previously preferred to introduce herself without her father's surname at events and in educational institutions.
The situation with the twins Vivienne and Knox, born in July 2008, has its own nuances. While Knox has not yet undergone the official procedure for changing his surname in court, according to media reports, he already uses the surname Jolie in some documents.
In total, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie raised six children: three biological and three adopted. The story with Vivienne only highlights how deeply the relationships between the former spouses and their children have transformed in recent years.
