Ukraine's economic calendar for June 2026 recorded a significant increase in household income. The average wage across the country reached 32,783 hryvnias, which is 5.9% higher than May's figures. The annual growth amounted to approximately 6,000 hryvnias, demonstrating positive dynamics against the backdrop of persistent structural imbalances.
Geography of Income: From the Capital to the Periphery
Despite the overall growth, the map of wages in Ukraine remains uneven. Traditionally, the capital and several key regions hold the leading position, where the standard of living and labor costs are significantly higher than the average. At the same time, the situation in other regions looks different.
The lowest average wages were recorded in the Chernivtsi and Kirovohrad regions. In Chernivtsi, the figure was 24,472 hryvnias, while in Kirovohrad it was 23,882 hryvnias. The gap between leaders and laggards highlights the regional differentiation of the economy.
Sectoral Gap: IT vs. Healthcare
The field of activity has a decisive influence on the size of a Ukrainian's wallet. The leader in labor remuneration remains the information and telecommunications sector without a doubt. Specialists in this industry earn an average of 77,931 hryvnias — more than three times the national average.
At the opposite pole is the healthcare and social assistance sector. The average wage in this sector is 22,274 hryvnias, which is the lowest figure among all industries. High incomes are also traditionally available to managers, international transport drivers, and programmers.
The Shadow Side: Wage Arrears
Positive statistics on average wages do not negate the acute problems in actual cash payments. As of July 1, the total arrears of employers to employees across the country reached 3.8 billion hryvnias. This indicator suggests that for a significant portion of wage earners, the growth of nominal figures remains theoretical.
State Support for Young Specialists
To alleviate the situation in the labor market and support the youth, the state has launched subsidy mechanisms. Employers who hire young specialists just starting their professional path are compensated for part of the expenses on wage payments. This measure is designed to stimulate employment in the startup segment and among market newcomers.
