The second half of August 2026 in Ukraine will be characterized by changeable but predominantly warm weather. Despite expectations of a sharp cooling often associated with the approach of autumn, meteorologists predict the maintenance of a summer temperature regime. However, the weather will become more dynamic: the replacement of an anticyclone with an atmospheric front will bring rain with thunderstorms to the country, especially in the western and northern regions.
Destruction of the anticyclone and weather change
According to data from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the anticyclone that has dominated in recent days will begin to break down. This will lead to a decrease in atmospheric pressure. Over the coming weekend, August 15 and 16, the influence of the anticyclone will still be felt: slight cloudiness and no precipitation are expected. The wind will be weak, 3–8 m/s, without a clearly defined direction. Due to the lack of wind and abundant sunshine, air temperatures will continue to rise.
On the night of August 15, the temperature will be +8…+13°C, and during the day the air will warm up to +23…+28°C. In Zakarpattia, as in previous years, the hottest air is expected — up to +30…+33°C. At the same time, it will be slightly fresher in the east and northeast — +20…+25°C. On Sunday, August 16, across Ukraine, the temperature at night will remain within +11…+16°C, and during the day the air will warm up to +27…+33°C.
Arrival of the atmospheric front and thunderstorms
Starting Monday, August 17, a new atmospheric front will begin to enter Ukraine from the west. This will change the weather picture: in most regions, precipitation is not expected, however, in the western and northern regions, local rain with thunderstorms is possible during the day. The wind will strengthen and turn to the southwest, reaching 5–10 m/s.
During this period, the temperature at night will be +14…+19°C, and during the day — +27…+32°C. Only in the northwest, due to the influx of a cold atmospheric front, the temperature will drop to +21…+26°C. The atmospheric front will move from west to east, gradually covering new regions. On August 18, most regions will again be without precipitation, but short-term rain with thunderstorms is expected in the western and northern regions.
Forecast for the end of August and temperature records
On August 19, short-term rain with thunderstorms will pass across all of Ukraine, except for the western regions. During this period, the temperature at night will be +11…+20°C, and during the day — +27…+34°C. However, on August 18 in the western regions, and on August 19 in most regions, except for the south and southeast, it will become cooler. At night, the temperature will drop to +10…+17°C, and during the day it will be +21…+28°C.
It is interesting to note that on August 13, a new temperature record was recorded in Chernihiv — the minimum air temperature dropped to +7°C, repeating the indicators of 1984. This indicates that in the northeastern part of the country and the Dnipropetrovsk region, the temperature is slightly below normal. In general, the average daily air temperature currently observed in Ukraine is close to normal.
Fire hazard and safety
It is important to note that on August 18 and 19, Ukraine will experience an extreme level of fire hazard. This is not an anomaly for this period, however, safety rules should be observed. Synoptic Ivan Semylit emphasizes that a sharp drop in temperature is not predicted in the near future. The weather will change in a wave-like manner, but in general, it will remain quite warm.
The air temperature at night will fluctuate within +11...+19°C, and during the day — +24...+30°C. In the south and southeast, the air will warm up to +34°C. That is, after the passage of the atmospheric front, no significant cooling is expected — Ukraine will remain within the summer temperature regime.
