According to the latest meteorological data, the country is enveloped in a temporary lull following recent temperature anomalies. However, synoptic forecasters warn that this is merely a respite before the return of summer scorching heat. In the coming days, Ukrainians can expect comfortable weather, which, however, will not last long.
A week of comfortable weather: what to expect in mid-August
According to the forecast announced by synoptic forecaster Natalia Didenko, a fresh air mass entering the rear of a cold atmospheric front will provide Ukrainians with a relatively cool week. Notably, this front brought almost no rain, limiting itself to a change in temperature regimes. Throughout the week, starting from August 13 and including Saturday, daytime air temperatures will fluctuate between +22 and +26 degrees. These are ideal conditions for outdoor recreation, walks in parks, and street events, which have often been canceled in recent months due to extreme heat.
Return of the heat: forecast for the end of the month
Starting Sunday, August 16, and Monday, August 17, forecasters predict a sharp change in the weather situation. The heat will return; however, as experts note, it will differ from previous waves. Nighttime temperatures in August will be significantly lower, creating an effect of "pleasant coolness" during the dark hours. This will allow city dwellers to better endure the daytime scorching heat, which, according to forecasts, will reach significant levels. In Kyiv, in particular, temperatures are expected to rise to +28 degrees as early as Sunday, and from Monday, full-fledged heat will resume in the capital.
Absence of precipitation and anticyclone
Despite the change in temperature regimes, rain is not forecast for the coming days. An anticyclone continues to dominate over Ukraine, ensuring dry and sunny weather. This is particularly important for residents of major cities, where a precipitation deficit has been observed in recent months. In Kyiv, on August 13 and until the end of the week, dry, sunny weather is expected with temperatures ranging from +22 to +25 degrees. However, as soon as the anticyclone weakens, local thunderstorms and short-term rains are possible, especially in the western regions of the country.

There are discrepancies in the forecasts of various meteorological services. Earlier, Natalia Ptukha, Head of the Media Relations Department of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, stated that a powerful heatwave is gradually retreating from Ukraine, to be replaced by an atmospheric front with rain and thunderstorms. However, Natalia Didenko asserts that rain is not yet forecast, and the heat will return by the end of the week. These contradictions may be related to differences in forecasting methodologies and timeframes considered by different specialists.
Recommendations for the population
In connection with changing weather conditions, meteorologists recommend that residents of Ukraine be prepared for sharp temperature fluctuations. On cool days, light clothing should be worn, and with the return of heat, one should take care of sun protection and adequate fluid intake. This is especially relevant for the elderly and children, who are most vulnerable to temperature fluctuations. It is also recommended to follow official weather forecasts and be prepared for possible changes in weekend plans.
