On November 6, cloudy weather with sunny spells and widespread precipitation is expected across Ukraine. According to meteorologists, light rain, sometimes mixed with sleet, will occur during the day throughout the country, with the exception of most western regions; light snow is forecast in the Carpathians. Daytime temperatures will range from 0 to 6 degrees Celsius, while in Transcarpathia and the far south of the country, temperatures will rise to 5–10 degrees above zero. Thus, after a relatively mild start to the month, Ukrainians are already experiencing the first signs of a sustained cold spell.

Cold Atmospheric Front and Precipitation Zone

A similar pattern is described in the forecast provided by weather forecaster Natalka Didenko: a cold atmospheric front is crossing the territory of Ukraine on November 6. Against this backdrop, rain is expected in most regions, while rain mixed with sleet is anticipated in the north and parts of the central and eastern regions. Meanwhile, western regions will come under the influence of a northern anticyclone, which will keep them mostly dry with little precipitation. The first signs of winter weather were observed overnight: in some regions, temperatures dropped below zero, and snow flurries were reported in the north and northeast of the country.

Wind and Wind Chill Factor

A significant factor of the day will be a northwesterly wind at speeds of 7–12 m/s. In most western, as well as Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions, gusts of 15–20 m/s are expected during the day. Due to the strong wind, the actual temperature will feel significantly lower than the thermometer readings, so forecasters recommend dressing warmly and accounting for the wind chill when planning outdoor walks and trips.

Forecast for Kyiv and the Region

Cloudy weather with sunny spells is also expected in Kyiv and the Kyiv region on November 6. Light rain is forecast, with sleet in some parts of the region. Residents of the capital and the region should be aware of potential ice on roads and sidewalks, as well as high humidity and wind, which are characteristic of the transition period from rain to snow.

What's Next: Warming and Risk of Abnormal Cold

Previously, forecasters reported that the weather in Ukraine will change even more significantly in the coming days: precipitation will increase, and in some places, rain will be replaced by sleet. According to meteorologists, warming is only expected by the middle of the month, approximately November 15–16. The climatologist separately commented on whether Ukraine is threatened by abnormal cold similar to the previous winter season—this remains a subject of further analysis, taking into account the current dynamics of atmospheric fronts.
