A new trailer for the adventure thriller "Whale Fall" has appeared online, produced by 3 Arts Entertainment, Imagine Entertainment, and 20th Century Studios. This was reported by Wave RBC.UA citing the studio. The footage focuses on the protagonist's struggle for survival and his complicated relationship with his father—these are the lines the authors call central in the new promo video.
Plot: One hour to save himself inside a giant whale
The film's protagonist is Jay Gardiner, who, after his father's death, goes to the coast of Central California to fulfill his last will. However, during a dive, everything goes wrong: the young man is swallowed by a huge sperm whale. Once inside the animal, Jay realizes that his oxygen supply will last for about an hour. The only chance for salvation becomes the life lessons his father taught him while still alive.
Cast and creative team
The lead role was played by Austin Abrams, known for the series "Euphoria" and the film "Weapons". His father was played by Josh Brolin, known to viewers from "Dune" and "Avengers: Endgame". Also starring are Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd. The director is Brian Duffield, who previously worked on the films "No One Will Save You" and "Spontaneous". He wrote the screenplay jointly with Daniel Kraus, whose novel of the same name served as the basis for the adaptation.
How it was filmed: sets inside the whale
According to Brian Duffield himself, for the adaptation, the team practically spent the summer inside a whale: sets for filming were built in a studio in California. This approach allowed them to convey the claustrophobic atmosphere of an enclosed space, which becomes a key element of the thriller.
Premiere and release
The Ukrainian premiere of the thriller is scheduled for October 15, 2026. Thus, viewers will have the opportunity to see on the big screen a story in which the action tension of survival is combined with the dramatic line of father-son relationships.
