In the context of an unstable economy, the cost of food remains one of the most pressing issues for Ukrainians. Even for basic items that form the basis of the daily diet, the price difference between retail chains can reach tens of hryvnias. To help shoppers navigate the offers, RBC-Ukraine conducted a comprehensive analysis of price tags in popular supermarkets.

Experts studied current offers as of June 10, focusing on the lowest available prices in each chain. The goal of the study was simple and clear: to find out where it is currently most cost-effective to do family shopping. The sample included essential goods — from bread and cereals to dairy products and oil.

Bread and cereals: where to save?

Bread is the product bought most often, so even a small price difference for half a loaf matters. The analysis showed that the lowest price for half a loaf of "black" Ukrainian bread among the analyzed chains was recorded at ATB. At the same time, the most expensive option for this basic product is offered by the Auchan chain.

The situation with cereals also demonstrates a price spread. The cheapest buckwheat weighing 1 kg can be purchased at ATB. Conversely, the highest cost for this product is offered by "Silpo".

Dairy products and eggs

Eggs and milk are two other important items in the family budget. According to the study data, the lowest price for a dozen first-category eggs was recorded at ATB.

As for ultra-pasteurized milk, "Silpo" maintains leadership in price accessibility, offering the lowest rates among the analyzed offers. The most expensive milk was found in the Novus chain.

Oil and final conclusions

In the category of vegetable oils, Auchan offers the lowest price for refined sunflower oil with a volume of 0.5 liters. This demonstrates that even in chains with higher bread prices, you can find favorable offers on other product categories.

The RBC-Ukraine infographic, compiled based on this data, clearly shows that there is no single "cheapest" store. A profitable purchase depends on the specific product and consumption strategy. To save on the family budget, it is worth comparing price tags before going to the store or combining purchases in different chains.
