In the context of martial law, the question of undergoing a military-medical commission (VVK) remains one of the most discussed among those liable for military service. The Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (TCC) have clarified exactly who needs to appear for a medical examination and for whom this procedure is not mandatory.

Who is legally required to undergo a VVK

According to information from the Zhytomyr Regional TCC and Social Support Center, not all citizens are subject to mandatory medical examination, but only specific categories defined by legislation. First and foremost, this concerns those who are officially referred by the military registration authorities.

The list of mandatory categories includes:

  • All individuals liable for military service who have received a summons or an official referral for a medical examination from the TCC.
  • Citizens previously recognized as "fit for military service with limitations during wartime," if they have not undergone a re-examination following the legislative changes in 2024.
  • Individuals planning to enter military service under a contract.
  • Active military personnel requiring a re-evaluation of their health (for example, after injuries or deterioration of condition).

New requirements for female medical professionals

The TCC paid special attention to the category of women with medical and pharmaceutical education. For those who completed their studies after 2025, strict deadlines have been introduced: within 60 days, they must register for military service, undergo a military-medical commission, and complete the relevant documentation.

Purpose and results of the commission

The military-medical commission is conducted to determine the exact state of health and to establish the category of fitness for service. The procedure for referral and examination is regulated by the military registration authorities in accordance with Ukrainian legislation.

Following the abolition of the status "fit for service with limitations," VVK decisions may vary depending on the diagnosis: from being recognized as unfit or temporarily unfit to being assigned to rear units or being fully fit for service.

Previously, there was news about a draft law regulating the procedure for undergoing a VVK for foreigners serving or wishing to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The document defines the examination procedure to confirm injuries, illnesses, and the need for rehabilitation.
