In London, the fight for a spot in the Wimbledon 2026 quarterfinals ended for Ukrainian tennis player Daria Snigur. The representative of Kyiv, currently ranked 77th in the WTA rankings, lost in the third round to American Ashlyn Kruger. Despite the defeat, this tournament marked a historic breakthrough in Snigur's career.

Psychological turning point in the first set

The match was the first head-to-head encounter between these athletes at the professional level. Experts had warned in advance about the difficulties Snigur might face: traditionally, she struggles against tall opponents with powerful serves, as she lacks the physical strength to match them. The course of the match confirmed these predictions.

The start of the first set was evenly matched, with both players trading games steadily. However, the turning point came at 2-2. Daria had triple break points but failed to convert any of them. The situation worsened when the score reached 3-4 in favor of the American. On the opponent's break point, Snigur switched to an aggressive attack, pushing Kruger back along the baseline.
