July 6 became a landmark day for Ukraine's asymmetric war. In the midst of another massive missile attack by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian territory, including the capital, operators of the 413th Unmanned Systems Regiment "Raid" delivered a crushing counterstrike. The target was an S-400 surface-to-air missile system deployed in the Bryansk region.
Strike on the "deadly" S-400
According to representatives of the regiment, the S-400 launcher was detected and destroyed. Little remains of the expensive Russian air defense system, it is reported. This equipment was used by the occupiers to launch ballistic missiles at ground targets on Ukrainian territory.
"Raid" fighters emphasized the strategic importance of the strike location: "The territory of the Bryansk region is one of the standard areas from which Russians launch ballistic missiles at Kyiv." The destruction of this launcher, according to the military, helped save the lives of Ukrainian civilians who could have become victims of shelling.
Systemic approach: from radars to launchers
The success of the operation in the Bryansk region was no accident. It was the result of coordinated actions by various units. Earlier, systematic strikes on Russian radars in the same region opened a so-called "window of opportunity" for long-range Ukrainian drones.
Operators of the "Roni" group effectively strike SKPP (control and warning systems) radars, which monitor airspace in the direction of Moscow. Blinding Russian air defenses allowed "Raid" drones to reach S-400 launchers that were previously well protected.
Expanding the front of strikes
The effectiveness of drones is confirmed by other targets as well. Ukrainian military forces destroyed a vehicle serving as a launcher for "Shahed" kamikaze drones. Experts note that this is a fairly rare and difficult target to hit from the air.
Parallel to the strikes in the Bryansk region, the Special Operations Forces (SOF) carried out a large-scale attack on the night of June 25 on occupied Crimea. As a result of the operation, 38 various enemy military targets were hit. These events indicate that Ukrainian drones are penetrating deeper into Russian and Crimean territory, striking key nodes of military infrastructure.
