An event occurred on the front lines that attracted the attention not only of the military but also of the general public. Oleg Tyahnybok, former People's Deputy of Ukraine, leader of the 'Svoboda' party, and active serviceman, was wounded as a result of a Russian drone attack. The incident occurred during combat operations while he was in a vehicle with fellow soldiers.
Incident Details
The circumstances of the incident were clarified by Timur Knysh, a senior lieutenant and deputy commander of a company in the unmanned systems battalion of the 128th Separate Mechanized Brigade 'Dike Pole'. According to him, a Russian FPV drone attacked the vehicle in which Tyahnybok was traveling. The situation could have turned out more tragically if not for the driver's professionalism and the high speed of the vehicle.
"Thanks to the driver's skill and the speed of movement, the wound is non-fatal. However, a strong concussion with all its consequences—barotrauma and a concussion—occurred. But the person is alive," Knysh emphasized. Thus, Tyahnybok avoided more severe consequences, although he sustained serious injuries requiring treatment.
From Politician to Battalion Commander
Oleg Tyahnybok is known not only as a politician but also as an active participant in combat operations since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. After the war began, he announced the suspension of his party's political activities for the duration of martial law and joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In 2025, Tyahnybok was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel and appointed as the commander of the unmanned systems battalion of the 'Dike Pole' brigade. This decision became a logical continuation of his path from politician to military leader, capable of commanding modern units using cutting-edge technology.
Public Reaction
News of Tyahnybok's injury quickly spread across social media and the press. Ivano-Frankivsk Mayor Ruslan Martsyukiv expressed condolences and wished him a speedy recovery in his Telegram channel: "Oleg Tyahnybok was wounded on the front. He was in one vehicle with his comrades when an enemy drone hit it. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Support also came from fellow soldiers and supporters of the 'Svoboda' party. Many noted Tyahnybok's courage, who, despite his age and political status, chose the path of direct participation in defending the country.
Context: Losses Among Military Leaders
The incident involving Tyahnybok occurs against the backdrop of other tragic events related to losses among military leaders. In March, the commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade, Hero of Ukraine Alexander Dovgach, was killed in eastern Ukraine. He had hundreds of successful combat missions to his credit, making his death particularly painful for Ukrainian society.
These events highlight the high price paid by military and political leaders for defending their country. Each case of injury or death serves as a reminder of the severity of the war and the need to support those on the front lines.
