Social network X has announced a major overhaul of its monetization program rules for creators. The platform is launching an unprecedented campaign to combat 'parasites' — users who profit from others' content and artificial metric inflation. At the heart of these new measures is the protection of intellectual property and the redistribution of revenue in favor of genuine creators.
Technological revolution in duplicate detection
The key tool in this fight is the updated Grok artificial intelligence model. According to TechCrunch, the new version of the algorithm demonstrates a significant leap in efficiency: it finds copied content faster and in much larger volumes than previous versions. The system can now recognize attempts to hide the origin of materials. Even if an infringer adds watermarks, intro sequences, or makes other visual changes, the algorithm identifies the original. In such cases, monetizable views are automatically credited to the person who posted the content first. This mechanism applies not only to media files but also to copies of text messages that have gone viral.
Financial consequences for infringers
The effectiveness of the new system has already been confirmed by the numbers. During the latest review cycle, the platform identified about 1.5 million posts that turned out to be copied. Although the exact period of the review is not specified, the consequences for users' wallets are already noticeable. As a result of implementing new mechanisms, more than $1 million in payouts will be returned to the original content creators. These funds will not go to those who posted copies but will be redirected to the authors of the originals. This is a signal that the era of easy money from reposting other people's ideas on X is coming to an end.
Strict measures against inflation and bots
In addition to fighting plagiarism, X has strengthened control over bots and other platform rule violations. Monetization policy is becoming stricter: users who repeatedly or intentionally circumvent the new rules will be excluded from the program. Special attention is being paid to accounts engaged in inflating followers and engagement. The platform is introducing a 'three-strikes' system: upon detection of three or more such violations, the account will be handed over to the platform policy team to consider full blocking. This creates serious risks for those building business models on artificially inflating their audience.
