Russia's largest technology company, Yandex, has faced an unprecedented wave of incidents affecting its critical infrastructure. One of the company's data centers, located in the Vladimir region, has completely halted operations as a result of a drone attack. According to corporate representatives, the incident led to the disconnection of the facility from power supply and communication networks, causing temporary disruptions in the operation of several key digital services.

Chronology of Attacks on IT Infrastructure

The current incident in the Vladimir region is the third episode in the past week where the company's facilities have been targeted. The situation began to escalate on October 8, when a drone strike disabled a data center in the town of Sasovo (Ryazan region). This facility was of strategic importance to the entire corporation, as it housed two of the company's three supercomputers used for training large-scale artificial intelligence models.

The very next day, on October 9, another company data center was hit—this time in the Kaluga region, southwest of Moscow. This facility also sustained serious damage and partially failed. A series of successive strikes on key nodes of digital infrastructure has demonstrated the vulnerability of large data centers to modern air attack weapons.

Consequences for Users and Services

The company itself assures that there were no casualties among the personnel as a result of the incident in the Vladimir region. However, the scale of infrastructure destruction necessitated transferring some systems to an emergency operation mode. Users of the Yandex ecosystem across the country faced temporary unavailability of certain search, cloud, and transport services. Company engineers are urgently redistributing the load to surviving server capacities.

Contradictory Data

Meanwhile, discrepancies regarding the overall scale of the technical failure have emerged in the expert community and various information sources. Official Yandex representatives report the localization of problems and the gradual restoration of stability for most services within a day. At the same time, independent monitoring resources and foreign media report a larger-scale failure affecting more than 80 related platforms, including Yandex Cloud solutions, and predict long-term consequences for the company's AI development due to the loss of computing power in Sasovo.
