Ukraine's number seven and world number 97 Dayana Yastremska has finished her performance at the WTA 250 tournament in Guangzhou, China. In the second round of the main draw, she faced local athlete Shi Han, who received a wild card from the organizers. The match lasted 1 hour and 31 minutes and ended in a victory for the Chinese tennis player in straight sets — 7:5, 6:4. This is reported by Sport RBC.UA with reference to the match results.
Road to Guangzhou: A streak of three wins
Before the decisive match, Yastremska demonstrated confident play at the tournament: the Ukrainian won three matches in a row, two of which were in the qualifying round, and the third at the start of the main draw in Guangzhou. It was the defeat by Shi Han that interrupted this streak, preventing the tennis player from reaching the quarterfinals of the competition.
First set: Early break and tight battle
The first set started with a quick break by the Chinese tennis player, but Yastremska managed to equalize as early as the fourth game — 2:2. After that, the opponents reliably held their serves right up to the climax of the set. The 11th game proved decisive, in which Shi Han converted a break point again and confidently served out the set, winning it 7:5.
Second set: The scenario repeats
In the second set, the scenario largely repeated: the Chinese athlete made an early break in the third game and established an advantage — 3:1. Until the end of the match, Yastremska tried to regain the initiative, but Shi Han maintained the gap and in the tenth game successfully closed the match on her own serve — 6:4. The final score of the meeting is 7:5, 6:4 in favor of the Chinese representative.
What's next: Qualifying in Hong Kong
Yastremska will try to rehabilitate herself in a week: the Ukrainian tennis player will compete in the qualifying rounds of the next WTA 250 tournament, which will be held in Hong Kong. Thus, after exiting Guangzhou in the second round, she will have to start her path from the qualifying rounds again to return to the main draw of the competition.
