Forecasters have issued an alert: Ukraine faces the threat of a sudden deterioration in weather conditions. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has warned residents of most regions about the approach of dangerous meteorological phenomena. In particular, a “yellow” alert level has been introduced for the capital region and the city of Kyiv.

Gusty winds in the West and thunderstorms across the country

According to data from the press service of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, published on Facebook, the weather map shows a non-uniform but alarming situation. Strong gusts of wind are forecast for the western regions of the country, with the exception of Zakarpattia, with speeds reaching 15–20 m/s.

Across the rest of Ukraine, forecasters expect an increase in thunderstorm activity. Level I danger (“yellow”) has been declared in certain areas. Experts emphasize that such weather conditions may lead to complications in the operation of enterprises and disruptions to transport movement.

Situation in Kyiv and the region

Residents and guests of the capital region have also been urged to remain vigilant. In the near future, with the effect persisting until the end of the day on June 16, dangerous meteorological phenomena are likely in Kyiv and the region. Level I danger (“yellow”) is also relevant for the capital region. Forecasters warn that the bad weather could negatively affect the functioning of urban infrastructure.

Cause of instability: cyclone from the north

The weather pattern in Ukraine in the coming days will be determined by a low-pressure field. Its source is a cyclone, the center of which is located to the north of the country. Consequently, unstable weather with short-term rain is expected in most regions, and thunderstorms in some areas.

The synoptic picture is also influenced by a moist and cool air mass entering Ukraine with western and northwestern flows. Meanwhile, atmospheric pressure readings will be subject to minor fluctuations.
