The YouTube platform has begun a large-scale removal of video clips advertising the Russian 'Alabuga' factory and other sanctioned entities. This decision was the result of direct dialogue between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the leadership of the video hosting service.

Dialogue led to concrete results

As reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, Ukraine sent a request at the end of April demanding the blocking of advertising content related to arms production in Tatarstan. During structured negotiations, the parties concluded that platforms hosting such advertising cannot be considered neutral service providers.

"When we welcomed the start of the dialogue with YouTube, we said that we believe — it will lead to concrete results. Today this has been confirmed," Sybiha wrote in his statement.

'Alabuga': drone production and recruitment of minors

The 'Alabuga' factory, located in the special economic zone of Tatarstan, is known as a place for assembling Shahed-type strike unmanned aerial vehicles. These drones are regularly used to attack Ukrainian territory. In addition to production activities, the enterprise has actively attracted public attention due to the practice of recruiting teenagers — some as young as 15 — to work on the assembly line.

Sybiha emphasized that every platform distributing 'Alabuga' advertising effectively becomes part of the chain supporting Russian military production and allowing crimes against humanity to be committed.

Call to other platforms

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on all major digital platforms to take similar measures immediately. According to the minister, the campaign to recruit minors continues simultaneously on several resources, and every day of inaction increases the number of children falling into the field of view of the factory's recruiters.

"Every day of inaction is another day when content recruiting teenagers for the weapons factory reaches its audience on the open internet," noted Sybiha.

Ukraine is ready for similar dialogue with any platform that is ready to act on the same principles — transparency, responsibility, and compliance with international norms.

History of the conflict with YouTube

The decision to mass-delete content was the result of the long-term work of Ukrainian diplomats. The first official appeals were sent in April, but only after a series of meetings and document exchanges did YouTube begin a global cleanup of advertising materials related to 'Alabuga'.

It is worth noting separately that in November 2025, a major fire occurred at the battery warehouse in the 'Alabuga' SEZ — the fire area reached about 1000 square meters. The incident raised questions about production safety and working conditions, but did not become a reason to stop the factory's activities.

What's next?

Blocking 'Alabuga' advertising on YouTube is an important step, but not the final one. Ukraine continues to monitor the situation and is preparing new requests for other platforms. The goal is to completely eliminate the possibility of promoting sanctioned production through legal digital channels.
