Probii football club from Horodnya has officially announced the appointment of Yuriy Virt as head coach. This was reported by Sport RBC.UA, citing the club's press service. The 52-year-old Ukrainian specialist, who previously played as a goalkeeper for the Ukraine national team and Donetsk's Shakhtar, has been called in to stabilise the team's performance amid a deep crisis at the start of the season.
Reasons for the coaching change
Virt joined the club from Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, replacing Volodymyr Kovalyuk, who resigned after three consecutive heavy defeats in the championship. One of the most painful was the match against Agrobusiness, lost 0:6. According to available information, the contract with the new coach runs until the end of the current season, with the option to extend for one more year.
Coaching staff composition
Alongside the head coach, his assistant Mykola Lapko also joined Probii. At the same time, the club retained part of the previous staff: goalkeeper coach Mykola Pletenitsky and fitness coach Yaroslav Konkolyak, who had worked under the previous coach, kept their positions.
Virt's career and experience
For Virt, this role marks a return to coaching after a pause of more than six months. The last club he managed was Niva of Ternopil, which he left in December 2025. In the past, the specialist's coaching path also included Veres of Rivne, Rukh of Lviv, and Zvyagel.
Critical position in the standings
The situation at the specialist's new club remains critical. After six opening rounds of the First League, Probii has earned just two points and sits in last, 16th place in the standings. Thus, Virt and his staff have only a few rounds left to turn the season around and avoid relegation from the division.
