Ukraine national team centre-back Ilya Zabarnyy has a real chance to return to the English Premier League. According to British insider Wilson Cox, as reported by RBK-Ukraine, Paris Saint-Germain management is offering the Merseyside club a transfer package consisting of three players.
Composition of PSG's transfer package
The French club, aiming to reduce its squad size, is ready to send three footballers to England. The list of candidates includes:
- Midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery;
- Centre-back Lucas Berardo;
- Centre-back Ilya Zabarnyy.
The legal structure of the deal has already been determined: the Parisians insist on a one-year loan with a mandatory subsequent purchase of the contract.
Liverpool's position and club priorities
"The Reds" sporting director Richard Hughes is already reviewing this offer, while simultaneously considering other options to strengthen the defense. It is known that Hughes held a meeting with representatives of Lucas Berardo. However, interest in Warren Zaïre-Emery has cooled down for now: the main priority for Liverpool's midfield remains Alex Scott from "Bournemouth".
The Andoni Iraola factor
The key factor that made Ilya Zabarnyy's transfer realistic right now is the appointment of Spaniard Andoni Iraola as Liverpool's head coach. The Basque specialist knows the Ukrainian's potential well, as they worked successfully together for three years at "Bournemouth".
It was under Iraola's leadership that Zabarnyy became an indispensable player in the starting lineup of the "Cherries". Since the new Merseyside coach is perfectly familiar with the capabilities of the Ukrainian defender, Ilya's chances of moving have increased significantly. Now it all depends on whether Liverpool's representatives agree to the terms offered by the French club.
