On the day of September 4, as a result of a Russian attack on Kyiv, an establishment of the "Zavertailo" bakery chain in Podil was damaged. This was reported by the owner of the location, Stanislav Zavertailo, in his Instagram, emphasizing that Russian strikes had destroyed his establishment for the second time. At the time of publication, the bakery is closed, and detailed information about the scale of the damage and the timeline for restoration, according to the owner, will be provided later. In the footage published online, the shattered display windows and damaged facade glazing are visible, behind which the interior and the hanging light fixtures of the hall can be made out.
Statement from the owner: "I am most worried about the guests and the team"
Stanislav Zavertailo, in an address to his followers, noted that he is primarily concerned about the safety of guests and employees who may have been in the hall at the moment of the strike. The owner did not disclose details about who carried out the strike or with what specific means, limiting himself to stating the fact of the repeated destruction. He also reported that the location is temporarily not operating, and the damage assessment and restoration plan will be announced separately once the information is gathered and verified.
One injured person hospitalized
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that after a drone fell in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital, one injured person has already been hospitalized by medics. Thus, the September 4 attack, during which the bakery in Podil was damaged, led not only to material damage but also to a person being injured. At the time of preparing the material, no official clarifications had been received regarding the condition of the injured or the presence of possible other victims.
Part of a series of strikes on Kyiv's business
The strike on "Zavertailo" fits into a series of attacks on the commercial infrastructure of the capital and Kyiv region over the past weeks. On the night of September 2, the new central warehouse of the OKWINE and Wine Hunters chains was destroyed, and on September 2 drones hit a warehouse building in Kyiv, where a fire started. On August 27, as a result of a massive attack, the ROSHEN company warehouse in the Chubynske settlement of Kyiv region burned down completely. According to Ukrainian media, after the strikes on Kyiv, damage was recorded not only to bakeries and coffee shops but also to shopping centers, indicating the systematic nature of the attacks on retail and food service facilities.
Contradictory data
There is an inconsistency in the wording around the incident that is important to sort out. On the one hand, in the reports the incident is presented as the destruction of "the second establishment of the chain" "Zavertailo" in Kyiv, which can be read as a strike on another, second location of the chain. On the other hand, the owner himself says that the shelling "destroyed his establishment for the second time," and earlier — on May 24 — according to Ukrainian publications, the strike damaged precisely the Podil flagship of the chain, which was then restored and reopened. That is, there are two interpretations: either this is a repeated strike on the same Podil location, or an attack on another establishment of the chain, which became the second destroyed object. Officially, the owner has not resolved this duality, so until clarification from first-hand sources, both versions remain in force.
At this point, the "Zavertailo" bakery in Podil is closed, and the full picture of the damage, the list of injured, and the timeline for resuming operations will be published by the owner and city authorities later. For residents of the district, the key issue remains safety: repeated strikes on popular food service locations in central Kyiv confirm that retail and cafe facilities continue to remain in the risk zone.
