Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated his clear position regarding the format of future peace negotiations. During a joint press conference in Tallinn with Estonian President Alar Karis, the Ukrainian leader declared that European countries must become mandatory participants in the dialogue at the level of heads of state.

The Formula for a Safe Continent

According to Zelensky, the first and critically important step towards a lasting peace must be a ceasefire. To achieve this, the Ukrainian president believes a meeting of leaders is necessary. This circle must undoubtedly include Ukraine, Russia, and, crucially, Europe.

"In order for a ceasefire to take place, in my opinion, it is better to have a meeting at the level of leaders. Who? Undoubtedly, Ukraine, Russia, and definitely Europe. It would be desirable to have Europe and the United States of America," emphasized the head of state.

Why Europe Cannot Be Left Out

Zelensky argued for the necessity of EU participation by stating that the conflict is taking place on European soil and directly threatens the security of the entire continent. He noted that European countries are already suffering losses from the war, particularly due to drone attacks.

"Why Europe? Because we are in Europe. This is our land, this is our continent, we must be sure that tomorrow will be a safe life. Therefore, these countries must conduct negotiations with such an important first step," the president stated.

The Question of Will for Peace

The Ukrainian leader also touched upon the question of the parties' readiness for dialogue. He emphasized that Ukraine has the will for a peaceful settlement, but at the moment, Russia has not demonstrated a similar desire.

"Ukraine has the will for all this, let's see if Russia has such a will. So far, they have not demonstrated it," Zelensky summarized, leaving room for further developments.
